An unusual antique mirror

I saw this unusual mirror at an antiques store south of Cooperstown, NY, and have to admit, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I’m not sure how well you can tell from the picture above, but it has a depth (off the surface of the wall) of approximately 4 or 5 inches, so it has quite a bit of heft. And as you can see from the detail below, every square inch of it has elaborate designs and shapes, including what appears to be inlaid bone? Or do you think it’s ivory? And I’m guessing the outside part is brass …?

Here’s another look from a different angle. This was hanging in a barn filled with antiques, and in this case, I couldn’t find a tag with any sort of description, so I really don’t know much about it other than what I’m speculating on from my visual observations. It’s quite a conversation piece, though, don’t you think?
