U.S. Route 64 is a highway that runs through Taos, New Mexico, providing access to the Taos historic center (and connecting to the High Road to Taos). On my trip to Taos, I stopped and started walking along this route – even though it’s technically a highway, once you’re in town, it has local speed limits, sidewalks, and stores along the road. As I walked by “Moxie Fair Trade and Handmade,” (as seen above), the colorful and art-covered posts outside the store caught my attention.
It’s not clear to me who the artist is, and unfortunately I didn’t go inside the store to ask … the couple times I’ve been to Taos, it’s usually been under the same set of circumstances: I’m making a day trip from Santa Fe, taking the scenic “High Road to Taos,” and by the time I get to Taos, it’s mid-to-late afternoon and many of the shops and galleries close at 5:00pm, so I’m rushing through trying to see as much as I can. One of these days, I’ll go and stay overnight so that I can more fully explore everything there is in Taos.
At any rate, check out the art on the posts outside of the store:

They have a sort of folk art feel to them, or perhaps even an outsider artist style; if anyone knows who painted these, please let me know.

Here’s another pair, a bird and a turtle. I think it would be fun to have any one of these as a painted canvas.

Here’s three more, but this time, instead of folk art style animals, we have some colorful flowers:

Next time I’m in town, I’ll stop in to visit – I promise!
