This Old House

I’m considering the purchase of an old house, and the phrase “this old house” came to mind, which I see is a television show on PBS that perhaps I should start watching. You can see my back-and-forth debates with myself as to whether this is a a good idea or not here.

I’m still in the early stages of considering this old Mission Revival style house, and therefore respecting the privacy of the owner in advance of making or having an accepted offer, if indeed I make one. I guess I’m writing these blog posts as a way to work through my ideas and thoughts. I was obsessing on it the other day when I turned on the tv to relax but instead found myself all hyped up because the show I started watching was Zillow Gone Wild. I got inspired because the people on the show had even wilder houses than what I’m considering, but the one I’m looking at is pretty darn interesting too – maybe not “wild” or “crazy,” but certainly different than anything I’ve ever given serious thought to. The picture above showcases a few small details in just one bathroom in the main house … what’s up with the carved wood decorative element? I’m trying to figure out what that’s called – giltwood? “Finely carved swags” is a suggestion from an image search. “Neoclassical style giltwood” is another … at any rate, that’s a funky detail for a bathroom, along with a chandelier and curtains on the shower. Not sure if this is worthy of Zillow Gone Wild, but it’s some good stuff, right?

Let’s go back to that barn I mentioned in the last post … here’s another picture from inside the barn, on the first floor, a small room back in the corner. A nice collection of old tires and other junk – cleaning up this one room would take some time and effort for sure.

Considering I mentioned the idea of using the barn as an art gallery or antiques store (or a combination of both), I wondered how this might look all cleaned up and presented as a gallery? While I used Photoshop in my last post to image a new barn space, this time I decided to try A.I., and asked how this space might look as a gallery space, and I’m quite pleased with the result, as you can see below. It cleans up really well, don’t you think? Out with the old tires, in with the art.

It’s fun to think about, but I’m doing more than just thinking … I’m doing my research, reaching out to the local zoning officer, trying to determine if this is far-fetched or something with potential. McKinney Arts could have a whole new chapter, as an art gallery, artist retreat, writer’s retreat, the ideas are flowing.
