I have a favorite home furnishings store in Santa Fe: Mexico Lindo Furniture. The showroom features a collection of unique, rustic and custom-built furniture which is hand-crafted and designed by artisans. The material used to create these phenomenal pieces comes from salvaged antique doors and shutters which have been taken from haciendas located in small towns. Check out this vintage rustic door converted into a dining room table, which they had on display (and for sale).
Since I flew into Santa Fe from New Jersey, I wasn’t exactly in a position to buy something this large, and if I did, the shipping back to New Jersey would probably cost a fortune. But seeing something like this gives me ideas, as I’d love to replace my generic dining room table with a unique piece like this. Check out the keyhole (above right), even minor details like this on the surface give it an abstract expressionist appearance!
I’m not sure how hard it would be to clean this if someone spilled food on it – it would be a shame to cover it with a glass top, although I suppose that is one potential form of protection. Here’s another look at the table:

This is the same store where I saw the retablos in 2022 – I’ll have an update on my visit in search of more retablos soon!
