I saw this Poisonous Dart Frog at the Jenkinson’s Aquarium<\/a> at Point Pleasant Beach in New Jersey, and was struck by the beauty of the bright colors and patterns on its body. I think I could get some ideas from these patterns for a painting, it’s certainly a striking look.<\/p>\n

They’re not just good-looking for the sake of having a funky style, but rather the look of this skin serves a purpose of warning other animals. Poison dart frogs are known to be among the most poisonous amphibians in the world, but they don’t use this danger as a means of attack. Instead, it acts as a deterrent, with their brightly-colored bodies basically telling would-be threats that “Hey, I’m poisonous, so don’t eat me.”<\/p>\n

Here’s another look … not sure why this guy was positioned this way, but he just stayed there like this the whole time I was looking at him.<\/p>\n
