I didn’t get as much time to explore Tivoli as I would have liked, as it was an interesting little main street (or rather, named “Broadway”) which had some interesting and funky shops, galleries and restaurants. But in walking down Broadway, I noticed this painting of a woman in the front door of Tivoli Wine and Spirits, which made for a somewhat whimsical greeting at the front door of this business.

I’m trying to understand the significance of this painted woman – she’s not holding any alcohol, and one hand is positioned upright and the other hand is gesturing below her waist (?) while the sign says “Open.” Do you understand the crass nature of how I’m interpreting this without me spelling it out? Or am I just being crass?

I tried to do an online search to see if I could figure out who the artist is, and this is where it gets even stranger. A search for “Tivoli Wine and Spirits woman painted on the front door” refers an artist from Glen Ridge – and if so, that’s a coincidence as I used to live in Glen Ridge years ago. But following that link shows no reference to this mural – or Glen Ridge – or Tivoli Wine and Spirits, so what is that about? But the artist it links to is located in Easton PA, which is another coincidence, since I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Easton and even considered buying a building there to have a new McKinney Arts Gallery. But again, no reference to this painting on the liquor store door.

So, this is me going down a rabbit hole with no solid insight, but I still like the quirky and whimsical painting on the front door in Tivoli, New York.

On my way up to Livingston, NY to see the Mission Revival style house, I stopped in Tivoli to take a look around as I was in the area a little early for my realtor appointment.
