I took a day trip up to Peekskill recently, and as I was walking down N. Division Street, I noticed this odd display in a store window: the art works – if that’s what they are, I assume – are labeled and priced as “Lint: $25” and “Dirt: $25.” I didn’t see any indication of who the artist might be, or who to contact if one wanted to buy lint or dirt for $25, but it’s certainly an unexpected find. If you’re wondering, whatever used to be in this space is gone, and someone placed them in the window of a place that is available real estate, so it’s not like I could walk in and ask.<\/p>\n

Below is a close-up view of each, and to be honest with you, my art history background has me making visual associations between these pieces and some other artists. They both have a bit of an Antonio Tapies feel<\/a>, and the “lint” image also reminds me of an Irving Penn Cigarette photograph<\/a>. The “dirt” image also gives me an Ed Ruscha vibe<\/a>, since the word is included in the art.<\/p>\n
