Constructed Destinations is the 5th exhibition in the new McKinney Arts exhibition space in Belleville, NJ. The gallery is in a private residential setting, so viewings are by appointment only.

Press Release: McKinney Arts presents Constructed Destinations, the 5th exhibition in the new gallery located in the ground floor space of artist/curator Mark McKinney's townhouse. Due to the residential nature of the location (Belleville, NJ), viewings of exhibitions are by appointment only.
Constructed Destinations includes ten photo collage artworks created by Mark McKinney between 2022 and 2025. The original photos were taken by McKinney on various trips during the 1990s, using a Pentax ME Super 35mm camera, with destinations pictured including Italy, Greece, Santa Fe, Montauk, Chicago and New York. In those days of using 35mm film, the drug stores that developed them often provided duplicate prints at no extra cost, which McKinney held onto for decades without a specific plan of what to do with them. Starting in 2022, he started cutting them up, finding details that interested him and isolating those details, only to connect them - almost like a puzzle - with another photo cut to match the edges of the first cut image. McKinney decided to then add permanent colored ink (via Sharpie markers) in strategic places to push the imagery towards surrealism. The result is this collection of ten collages - the full body of work to date - which are presented together for the first time.
