I was very pleased to have my painting “Crash,” 2022, included in the group show “Hangups II” at Smush Gallery in Jersey City from September 8 – 17, 2023. Scroll down below the slideshow for more info.
SMUSH Gallery has provided a vibrant home for art and community events in the Journal Square neighborhood of Jersey City, NJ since 2018. The gallery hosts a wide array of events, including visual art exhibitions, dance, music, multidisciplinary performance, installation art, pop-up markets, open mics, workshops, artist services, and more! It’s a charming storefront space that reminds me of my McKinney Arts location back in the 1990s on East 11th Street.
The title of the exhibition, “Hangups,” was both a reference to the fact that it was an open call group show where artists could come “hang up” their work, but also had the theme to ask each artist to state what their own personal “hangup” might be. While I could think of quite a few, I wrote down that I’m hung up on the idea of moving to Asbury Park. At any rate, it was a pleasure to be involved in a group show, my first one if a few years.
