I was on a walk in Montclair, NJ today when I noticed this garage (above) on a residential street, and did a double-take. From a distance, I could that there was a custom installation of an artistic frieze, featuring some relief sculpture, but I had to move closer to get a better look. Once I did get closer, I could see these two reclining nudes, two female figures, in a carving that has been installed over the garage door.
I think this is pretty cool! I think it takes some guts to put two nude figures on the exterior of one’s house – you can bet there’s some stuffy neighbors who have a problem with it, but it makes for a unique and artistic addition to this garage! The figures have a slight resemblance to Picasso figures, but I don’t think it’s a direct copy or direct reference to any specific works. At any rate, nice to see something unusual and creative in the neighborhood!
