Railyard Artisan Market in Santa Fe

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’ll be heading out to Santa Fe next week, and hope to visit some favorite places that I’ve visited in the past. One such location is the Railyard Artisan Market (located in the Santa Fe Farmer’s Market Building, as pictured below left), which has a wide variety of paintings, sculpture, gifts, and Southwestern art in general. The picture above is from my last visit in 2022; how great are those paintings of stampeding buffalo and running horses, made in an op-art style not unlike M.C. Escher? Unfortunately, I don’t know who made those paintings, but I think they’re pretty great – I love the three of them together.

I’m not a hunter and have never had any interest in pursuing animals (other than playfully chasing my puppy), but I do have to admit that I find these embellished skulls to be quite appealing, both the cow skull above, and this ram’s skull below. The dramatic horns and blue stones are quite beautiful, in my opinion. They’re quite expensive, as one might imagine, and shipping one from Santa Fe to the East Coast would involve its own set of risks (of damage, unless packed super well), not to mention adding a hefty shipping bill to the overall cost, so I suppose I’ll just enjoy things like this while visiting.
