I’m heading out to Santa Fe to take care of some family business, and in preparation of doing so, have been looking back at some old pictures from previous trips there. Today’s collection comes from a trip in 2014, and includes some street photography taken at that time.
This sign featuring colorful tiles at the Coyote Cafe caught my attention at the time for the obvious reason that it takes a stylistic page from the Henri Matisse playbook, in particular, a riff on his “Jazz” series of cutouts. I don’t recall that I actually went into the Coyote Cafe last time, but maybe I’ll stop in on this trip if I find myself in the area of Water Street, where its located.
This next one just grabbed my attention for the humor as well as the good representation of the Creature from The Black Lagoon. At the time I took the picture 11 years ago, I was focused on the chalkboard drawing, so I don’t recall which coffee shop this was, but hey – if the Creature from the Black Lagoon will leave his swampy home for this coffee, it must be good, right?

I always enjoy walking around the historic district of downtown Santa Fe and look forward to hopefully finding new and interesting things this week. Since I’ll be there starting tomorrow, I’ll shift from looking back at old pictures and share some new ones.
